Volunteers sought for UVic Congress of the Humanities

Notice from University of Victoria:

The Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is coming to the University of Victoria from June 1 – 8, 2013! Congress represents eight exciting days of academic excellence, public lectures and community celebrations as more than 7,000 academics and researchers come together to share their findings, refine ideas and build partnerships to help shape the Canada of tomorrow.  We need your help to make this event a success!

The Congress team (Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences and UVic) is looking for 400 volunteers to be part of this world class event. Volunteers will play a key role in ensuring every delegate has a positive experience at UVic. By offering to help during Congress, volunteers automatically become a member of the DEL-X1 Team – Delegate Experience First. DEL-X1 is reflective of the university’s commitment to delegate satisfaction.

Volunteer assistance is required in a variety of areas, including:

  • Wayfinding
  • Residence Support
  • Hospitality
  • Transportation Services
  • Volunteer Lounge
  • Campus Ambassadors
  • Audio Visual/ Systems
  • Building Monitors
  • Special Events

Most volunteer shifts are four hours in length. Once the shift is over, volunteers are invited to participate in the events happening across campus. They can browse the artisan fair, take in the performances on the outdoor concert main stage or attend the Big Thinkers lectures.

All volunteers will receive training related to Congress and their assignment areas.  Additional perks include a Volunteer Lounge with refreshments for break periods, door prizes, and early morning volunteers will receive a gift certificate for a hot breakfast.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we are hoping your members can be a part of it! A poster with more info is attached. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, click here .
