A message from Victoria Councillor, Ben Isitt:
You are invited to the Public Forum on Municipal Speed Limits. If you are unable to attend the forum, please consider contacting your municipal councillors and mayor to urge support for the City of Victoria’s proposal to reduce the default municipal speed limit in BC to 40km/h. This does not mean that every road would be reduced to 40km/h. Arterial roads would be signed for higher speeds. But it means that the speed would be reduced on residential roads where high speeds are not appropriate and where the safety of children, seniors, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users should take priority. (see CARS on Facebook for further details on CRD objectives)
If you are a City of Victoria resident, consider writing to elected officials in neighbouring municipalities, since our city council is hoping for a strong showing from CRD elected officials when the resolution is debated by delegates at the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC) conference in Sooke from April 12-14. Please contact me Ben@Isitt.ca at any time with your questions or ideas on traffic safety or other issues.
