Saanich: Revised amendments to Tree Preservation Bylaw published

image

Saanich would like to thank you for taking part and providing valuable feedback during the public engagement process to amend the Tree Preservation Bylaw.

Based on the feedback received, we have revised the amendments. In creating the proposed amendments, Saanich staff worked to balance private property rights with the benefits the urban forest provides to the community.

The revised amendments allow Saanich to meet the Urban Forest Strategy goal of “Protect and Enhance the Urban Forest” by retaining more trees and planting replacement trees after trees are removed.

Please visit the website at saanich.ca/amendingtreebylaw to view the “Summary of the Proposed Amendments to the Tree Preservation Bylaw”. This document contains the revised amendments and clarifications to administrative language in the existing Tree Preservation Bylaw.

The proposed amendments will be reviewed in the coming weeks by the Parks Trails and Recreation and Environment and Natural Areas Advisory Committees. We hope to bring the proposed amendments to Council in December.

Please feel free to continue to send any comments or concerns to parks@saanich.ca.
