Saanich’s Urban Forestry, Horticulture and Natural Areas Department advise us that the Black Cottonwood tree at the front of 4022 Palmetta Place suffered limb failures during the recent wind storm.
In subsequent assessment, Saanich arborists found Ganoderma conks (trunk heart rot) on the lower trunk of the tree, varying in age from 1 – 5 years old. They also found a large cavity with advanced decay on the south side of the trunk. Samples of decayed sap wood taken from this tree showed advanced strength loss.
For this reason, Saanich has marked this tree for removal. A sign will be attached to the tree for a period of ten days.
A replacement tree will be planted at this location.
