Saanich Municipality’s Committee of the Whole is scheduled to meet on Monday, October 6, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, to discuss a report recommending the establishment of an Agriculture and Food Security Task Force to develop an Agriculture and Food Security Plan, in support and advance many food system initiatives in the District of Saanich.Members of the public are welcome to attend and will be given an opportunity to make a 5 minute presentation to Council if you choose.
The task force, modelled after approaches successfully used in other jurisdictions, would draw upon a range of food system stakeholders to ensure local perspectives and expertise are integrated throughout the process.
Recommendations include that a consultant be hired to assist Planning staff in the completion of this work plan item. In doing so, other key planning projects would not need to be re-prioritized. The approximate cost of a consultant would be $25,000 – $30,000.
A copy of the report and its recommendations is available here.
Written correspondence received up to 4:00 p.m. the day of the meeting will be copied to Council for their consideration. Correspondence should be sent to Cathy Weston, Senior Committee Clerk by email, or by snailmail to:
