Ted Olynyk, Manager, of Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast Community Relations for BC Hydro, advises:
Please be advised that BC Hydro will be working at Smugglers Cove June 16 and 17 within our cable right-of-way, including the intertidal zone of the beach. The work will last two days and disturb only the narrow 1 metre right-of-way that the cable currently follows. The work hours will be from 7 am to 3 pm. We appreciate and are mindful of the sensitive ecological nature of the beach. We will ensure that everything is returned to its previous state and will have a third party environmental monitor on site for the duration of the work.
The work includes the installation of new underground duct bank that leads from the terminal pole on Smugglers Cove Road down the beach past the low-tide mark. The work is timed to coincide with an extremely low-tide event.
The work is part of a larger project that eventually will repair the service to Strongtide Island. Service was disrupted due to failure of submarine cable to that island.
We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause.
