Peter Kelly of Saanich Engineering has advised us that the department will be replacing the last of the large diameter wood stave pipes in Gyro Park sometime in 2016. A preliminary design drawing and an overall drain location sketch are available for viewing. He further explains:
As you can see the existing pipe lies under the concrete sidewalk that runs from the middle of the Park to the north border, at Cadboro Bay Road.
With the exception of a minor direction change to the new pipe and sidewalk, it is our intention to leave the park as is.
The reason we are replacing this pipe is because it is in poor condition and it is not easily maintainable. These drainage works are not being completed to improve drainage within the Park.
The works we are undertaking are not at all related to the works our Parks Department are planning for the parking lot this year.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely
