CBRA member Graham Payette, who is also a volunteer coordinator for the South Island Terry Fox Runs, writes:
This year is a special year since—thanks to a private member’s bill passed last November—September 20, 2015 will be the first official “Terry Fox Day” in the province of BC. It is also the 35th anniversary of the original Marathon of Hope.
Information and a full list of run sites can be found at www.terryfox.org. In the Greater Victoria area, there are three venues that participants can choose from on September 20th:
- Victoria: Mile 0/Terry Fox Monument, Dallas Rd.: 9am registration, 10:30 start
- Central Saanich – Centennial Park, Wallace Dr.: 8am registration, 9am start
- Western Shore – Royal Roads University: 9am registration, 10am start
There are a myriad of events (pancake breakfasts, Silent Auctions, Head Shaves, Movies….), going on at each run site, organized by an incredible group of dedicated volunteers. Readers can download information about the run and Terry’s story, and personal stories from many of the local run organizers (MS Word format) as to what motivates them to volunteer year after year.
We would be most appreciative if our event could be added to your website calendar listings.
