Appeal for school supplies for Pacific island school

From Jenny Smith at the University of Victoria:

Dear List Serve,

I am a student in the Baum Lab and we are heading into the field next week
to conduct research on Kiritimati Island. For those of you who might not
know, it is a remote island in the equatorial Pacific where we are
studying coral reefs and climate change! We are also planning on spending
some of our time out there visiting the local schools in order to interact
with and teach students a bit about coral reefs and the ocean in general.

As it is a pretty remote island, we are hoping to bring along some basic
school supplies to provide to the schools in order to help facilitate
learning (things like pencils, sharpeners, colouring pencils, crayons,
glue sticks, drawing paper etc or maybe used children’s books that might
help with learning English).

We thought it might be a good idea to send a
request to the list serve to see if anyone has any supplies of this nature
that they might be willing to donate or potentially any funds to help
offset the costs of shipping supplies out there. If so, please feel free
to contact me – jennysmith@uvic.ca to arrange this. We are leaving next
Saturday, so I apologize for the short notice, but would appreciate
anything that you might have!

Thanks for your consideration,

Jenny Smith
