Local Area Plan Update

Process Update – March 2022

Saanich is currently concluding Phase 4 of the Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan Update which included open house events and a community survey to gather feedback on the Draft Plan. As part of this phase, community stakeholder groups and council advisory committees were also consulted.

As a result of a motion at one of the council advisory committee meetings, the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Housing Affordability and Supply, a staff report will be presented at the March 14 Council Meeting seeking direction on how to proceed with the LAP planning process. The report will identify options and implications of the request to examine a significant change to the Proposed Plan’s land use framework.

The motion from the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Housing Affordability and Supply states:

“That the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Housing Affordability and Supply request Staff to bring back proposals to Council for purpose built rentals in the Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan.”

“That the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Housing Affordability and Supply request Staff to report back to Council with options and implications for expanding the geography of the core designation of the plan to Hobbs Street and along Sinclair Road to increase the range of incomes that will be accommodated by future rental and market strata housing.” (Feb 28, 2022)

Comments can be sent to Council at council@saanich.ca. Additional meeting details will be sent closer to the scheduled meeting.
