Saanich, BC – During the wind event on December 5, 2015 a vessel washed up on the beach in front of Cadboro Gyro Park. The District is working with the Coast Guard and other agencies on safety and environmental issues. No immediate safety concerns have been identified, however, members of the public should not be approaching the vessel.
The District is currently attempting to speak with the owner, who is asked to contact the District.
Salvage of vessels falls under the Canada Shipping Act and unless given approval by the owner, or by the Receiver of Wrecks if the owner cannot be reached, local jurisdictions do not have the authority to dispose of vessels that may wash ashore.Andy Laidlaw, CAO
