Update on the Queenswood property

From the University of Victoria:

Phase 1 internal demolition and hazmat remediation is now
complete. H.L Demolition was completing a few tail-end deficiencies, but
wrapped up it all up last week.

Kinetic
Construction has now taken over the project site and are starting to get set up
for the first Phase 2 Base Building Upgrade work packages. Initially they will
be doing some test drilling, then cuts in the concrete slab so they can
excavate down to the bedrock to install rock anchors – which are the main
supporting element of the building’s seismic upgrade. All of this work is
internal to the building through the existing slab, so nothing external to the
building will be disturbed.

Once this is
done, the anchors will be secured in place – and the shear walls will be
constructed of reinforced concrete – this will start third or fourth week of
July.

That work will
start the Phase 2 construction. There will be quite a bit of activity during
business hours from then until the base building work is complete.  Residents are reminded that the level of
activity will  be higher, with multiple
trades onsite, and to expect cement trucks and other vehicles attending the
site as necessary.

The site
superintendent from Kinetic is Mark Doyle – and his contact number is 250
381-5648
. He would be happy to respond to any issues.

The rezoning
continues to work its way to District of Saanich Council –it may be brought
forward to Committee of the Whole at one of the meetings in July.
