Tsunami warning issued—and lifted—over night

Bill Dancer, head of the Cadboro Bay Emergency Task Force, advises:

There was a Tsunami warning issued early this morning for Vancouver Island and other coastal areas following a 7+ quake in the Gulf of Alaska.

I was called at 4:30 AM by Saanich Emergency Preparedness to go to Gordon Head Rec. Centre where a “warming centre” was set up in case Cadboro Bay was to be evacuated (or at least those on the low shore line).

The pollce had probably knocked on a few doors before the warning was lifted around 5AM. I did not alert our local group as Saanich had everything in hand and direct contact with Province.

CBRA directors have thanked Bill for his mobilizing to notify residents overnight.
